Major Airports in Colombo

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is the major airport in Colombo and is located 35 km north of the city. As the main hub airport for Sri Lanka it handles a large number of passengers. It is being redeveloped by local government, including the construction of an entirely new runway and the addition of a modern shopping mall and restaurants, as the popularity of Sri Lanka as a destination continues to rise.

Buses to Bandaranaike International Airport are available every 15 minutes from the main bus station. These are operated by the airport itself. There is also public transportation from various points in the city. You can get a taxi to Bandaranaike International Airport, which are run by the airport’s own taxi service. Some of the taxis are air-conditioned and are available on request. There is no train to Bandaranaike International Airport but there is a station less than 1 km away from the airport.
